The rants or praises in list of course, don’t apply to any Oppos.

What brands/models/ kinds of cars do you find have the worst or best drivers, here’s my list:

(Note, for the sake of fairness, I’m not going to talk about taxi drivers or cops)

The best:

Mazda 3 drivers are mostly, to me, the least asshole-prone drivers. I can’t recall being ever tailgated by one, or cut off by one either. Plus, these are the most decisive drivers; they just get shit done and never block intersections for too long or leave their indicators on by accident.

Small Volvos: I find that people in S40s and S60 have never stood out in a crowd for being dicks. XC90 owners however.... they can suck more.

LR2 and Evoque drivers are pretty nice, coolheaded, easygoing drivers.

Personal trucks: With size comes responsibility I guess. I’ve never seen a person in a non-comercial truck drive badly or without respect for other drivers.

Non-Pruis hybrid owners tend to be quite nice and not absolutely self absorbed like some Prius drivers are.

The worse:

Golf GTI drivers are self-absorbed, abusive, unrestrained idiots. I’ve never seen more cars being driven badly or at too high a speed than a GTI.

Mercedes G wagon owners in general are massive idiots that abuse every opportunity the have to screw over everyone. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got into a fight over a parking space

Most Audi SUV drivers tend to be incompetent in the city and too fast on the highway.

Passat V6/ Accord V6 drivers are just the least safe drivers, hands down. I’ve never been tailgated more by any other make or model than the those in V6 trim . I mean, not to offend BM2 or anything.... Just saying it how it is

BMW 320i/BMW X6 drivers fall under the GTI category but a bit less crash-y

Jeep Wrangler drivers are going, constantly and on every road, too fast. Plus they’re eager to cut everyone they see off, hog two lanes because they don’t fit, and also climb curbs. I mean... why? Is it a jeep thing to just jump a curb during a traffic light and sit there with two wheels on the curb and two on the road? It’s maddening.

What about me?

I consider myself an asshole driver. I’m not even gonna lie. I do have some principles:

I don’t get into fights

I follow (or impose) the right of way rules on roudabouts

I always zipper merge

I never cut lines or drive above the speed limit in school zones or residential streets.

Idk, see too many bad drivers to notice the good ones.

Best: The people in minivans who seem to actually respect the fact that there are other vehicles around them.

I’ve only had one minivan cut me off, and that was a beat-to-hell Sienna where the driver and passenger were visibly arguing and not paying attention to the road.

Usually Sienna drivers are just oblivious to the world around them. Odyssey drivers though seem to have a family death wish.

Other minivan drivers generally seem decent compared to other drivers, but that’s not saying much.

Worst: Subaru

Their off-the-charts growth might have something to do with it, but to loosely paraphrase Ken Saito: it’s either flat-brimmed teenage hoons in a WRX or old people puttering along in an XV or Outback ( they love the AWD and safety features) . Both are dangerous for completely different reasons. There are plenty of people who defy these categories (they all have empty bike and kayak roof racks) , but too many at either end of the spectrum to ignore.

5 years ago, I might see one Subaru a week. Sample size was too small for any stereotyping.

Actually never had an issue with an Audi CUV. Honda CUVs (Pilot/CRV specifically) are terrible, but Odyssey drivers just seem to have a blatant disregard for life around them.

Subarus aren’t common here... but in reality the list of bad drivers could be reduced to any high performance or luxury car.... I’d add most WRXs to the GTI pile, but since there’s so little of them... I forgot about them.

The crappy CUV drivers consistently seem to be the ones who need like 4 car lengths to merge. It’s like they’ve bought their first SUV at the cost of their entire spacial awareness. Either that or they’re an uber doing 10 under the limit in the right lane.

I’ve seen a Mazda 3 driven by a total a-hole. I was quite surprised that it could move faster than a crawl.

The most irritating car to me is a Versa. Damn things are everywhere and usually camped out in the fast lane on I-10.

I’d argue that most dodge drivers here are bad... but it’s probably because of the influence the police has on them. (No one buys chargers, so if you have one, you look like a cop.)

I avoided the Versa because of the taxi driver influence.... About the Mazda 3 I know 3 people who own one, one is a total douchebag, the other two are angels and they represent most Mazda 3 drivers.

Worst:

First and foremost, school bus drivers. I’ve seen less reckless street races than shit I see school bus drivers do, for example: “Why would I stop going out onto a 4 lane highway?” Or “Let’s let the kids out on a 4 lane highway just over the crest of a hill.” Or “Let’s drive 1/2 a mile in reverse, because I don’t want to drive around the neighborhood.”

Second, anyone in a Nissan sedan. If you ever get around one on the interstate, expect something jaw droppingly stupid to happen. From cutting off eighteen wheelers, to jumping 3 lanes while on the phone, bever looking up.

Third, commercial truck drivers. “Let’s cause a bunch of traffic to lock their brakes on the interstate because I can do 67.2 vs his 67.19.” -truck drivers every 10 miles.

Honorable mention: Crown Vic “Fuck you, I want to be a cop, move over” or “I have a katana.”

Best

Prius drivers, they annoy us, but generally everything they do is slow and predictable.

Older SUV owners, because if they do anything erratic, they will crash.

who has two thumbs and is an asshole driver? this guy ( points at self with both thumbs). I like to be the fastest driver on the road. Even if only slightly, and I can get a bit road ragey, especially with slow drives. That said at least I’m attentive. I use my blinkers, and don.t swerve between lanes... usually.

Also here’s an etiquette question.

Does it count as left lane hogging if you are driving over the speed limit.

I have a tendency to just stay in the left lane of a 2 or 3 lane freeway, until I’m a mile to two from my exit. My wife says that makes me a left lane hog. I say it you’re only hogging the left lane if you are going slower than the person behind , or to the right of you. Since I’m typically doing at least 10 over of free ways, I say it’s not hogging. IF some one does run up on my bumper while I’m already speeding, I may move to the right, or speed up depending on my mood, and the kind.

Source: I have previously owned a non-GTI Golf and currently own a base-spec Passat wagon. I’m generally a careful and considerate driver, especially with the kids in the car, but I may or may not have occasionally been that guy in the past...

I think that lane hogging is not letting faster traffic pass. I’m always going on the lane that I perceive has the best pavement (it tends to be the left lane) until my exit unless someone wants to pass me... Because of that I usually keep a keener eye on my rear view mirrors when I’m driving on the highway.

I have a Mini and my friend has a 328. Can confirm, we drive like assholes (kinda jk).

Base camry/accord drivers are annoying. They drive at least +15, stick to your rear bumper and take all of eternity to pull away from a stop sign or a traffic signal.

If you’re not moving over to let someone pass because you’re already going 10 over the limit, you’re a left lane hog.

If you speed up instead of letting the faster person go by, you’re a left lane hog.

When safe and reasonable to do so, you should get out of the left lane and leave it clear for emergency vehicles and crazies.

Worst:

Dodge Caravan drivers - Either utter morons who frustrate everyone with their slow dawdling driving or absolute maniacs who think they’re qualifying for the Nurburgring 24h.

Nissan Versa drivers - Just plain unskilled.

Drivers of newer half-ton trucks - total asshats who have no idea what a centre of gravity is.

G5/Cobalt owners - usually an unskilled teenager whose car smells like fast food and perfume /cologne covering up the smell of sex. Typically found eating or using a cellphone at 130 km/h or tapping bollards in parking lots.

Pre-owned Hyundai drivers - This might just be a Toronto thing though. Typically piloted by motorists who should never be on a 400 series highway.

S-10 Blazer drivers - Complete asshats who will tailgate, cut people off, swerve across traffic, brake check and road rage.

VW drivers - Completely self-absorbed. Enough said.

Anything with a lift kit.

Best:

Mazda owners - They know what they’re doing and are reasonably courteous.

Lexus SC430 owners - Around here they know how to maintain a proper speed, how and when to use their headlights and most importantly lane discipline.

Grand Cherokee SRT owners - Almost as good as SC430 owners.

Viper owners - They never ever hold people up and when a faster car approaches from behind they just speed up, acting as a pawn in the game of highway radar chess .

Saab owners - They definitely know what they’re doing.

AMG owners - Always park well and if there’s a gap in traffic you’ll never see them again.

Jaguar sedan owners - For some reason they’re leagues better than most people who drive German cars.

I’ve been running into a fair number of Subaru Forester drivers recently that just don’t seem to know what they are doing. It’s not that they are malevolent, just not very competent at operating their motor vehicle, (merging, intersections, not paying attention, one was texting and whacked a curb in front of me ... maybe just coincidence.)

I feel like older Nissan Rogue drivers are the worst, nothing says “I know literally nothing about cars or driving or even what roads are” than a first gen Nissan Rogue.
